Sparkling wine, well known for it’s tiny bubbles that race to the surface, is one of the most exotic and refreshing types of wine that is also associated with fond memories of the special occasions in life. Even though the nature of it is unknown, it is also a widely accepted wine in society.

The most well known of sparkling wine, Champagne, was first discovered in France by Dom Perignon; a monk in the Champagne region. While performing his duties as a cellar master in the Benedictine Abbey, Dom Perignon stumbled across the recipe for the sparkling beverage. The wine was not popular at first, but over time, it gained notoriety over the years and once the people of France and the rest of the world heard about this fascinating wine, they wanted to taste and experience it for themselves. Soon after, Dom Perignon became a household name in wine making throughout France and the world. His formula and technique for making his sparkling wine eventually become known as the traditional way of making Champagne and it is still used today to make sparkling wines throughout the world.

It should be noted that while sparkling wine is made all over the world, it is not necessarily Champagne. Champagne is a sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France. If it is produced anywhere else, it may have it’s own designation, or it is simply sparkling wine.

Today, sparkling wine plays a large role in several celebrations and events. From it’s truly unique and breathtaking taste to it’s amazing look and splendid aroma – sparkling wine has the appeal and the flavor to keep people celebrating and living life for years and years to come. Although there are many manufacturers of the wine these days, most prefer to have the original and still the best – Dom Perignon. From it’s truly unique and breathtaking taste to it’s amazing look and splendid aroma – sparkling wine has the appeal and the flavor to keep people celebrating and living life for years and years to come.

Having the right humidity, movement, temperature and light conditions are key elements for the proper maturity of wine and whenever you store it for any length of time, it is also important that you ensure that it is in a safe place such as a wine rack. Even though there are several options in which to store your wine, it is suggested that you invest in a wine rack to store your wine in.

Wine racks come in a variety of styles that include side mounts, wall mounts, those that stack and those that are hung from ceilings. Sizes vary from those that can only hold a few to those that hold hundreds. When choosing a rack, be sure that you consider choosing one that properly suits your wine storage needs.

The best type of wine rack is said to be one that stores your wine horizontally while vertical wine racks are not recommended. Horizontal racks will keep the cork moist while keeping unwanted air from making contact with the wine. They are also very affordable and you can easily add more racks to the design.

Wine that is stored vertically will lead to the drying out and the shrinkage of the cork, thus allowing air to get to the wine and ruining it. Vertical wine racks are good for wines that are stored for very short periods of time or those that are best when consumed young. Another type of wine rack that is not recommended for long term storage is a tilted wine rack. Tilted wine racks can dry out the corks or deposit the sediments too close to the cork.

Wine racks are constructed of either metal or wood and the metal ones are considered the strongest; while the wood racks are proved to be more flexible. Wood racks are also known to provide more storage as well as being more appealing visually and durable with plenty of strength.

A wine rack is a valuable investment for you to make when you collect wines. With the many choices out there that are availble to you for your home, you can find a wine rack that is right for you that keep can your wine stored properly for years to come.

Are you wondering what temperature to store your wine once you have acquired it? Even though position is important when storing your wine, temperature is even more important factor overall. Temperature affects the flavor, quality as well as longevity of the wine.

The temperature for wine storage should always be between 50 to 65 degrees F so the wine will be able to develop nicely. Be sure that you do not store it in direct sunlight or in colder temperatures. If it is stored in direct sunlight or in a hot area, it will cause a chemical reaction that can damage the quality and flavor of the wine. Wine that is damaged by the heat will turn brown due to oxidation. Wine that is damaged from heat loses all of it’s flavor and color, making it virtually impossible to drink – or sell. Wine tstorage in colder temperatures may slow the aging process and it can also prevent the wine from getting the chemical reactions it needs as well. Even though it may not affect the overall quality or taste of the wine, it is not recommended. Once the bottles have been opened, the wine should be stored in a location with a temperature above 50 degrees F. so it can get the chemical reactions it needs.

The average temperature for wine storage once it has been opened is 41 degrees F. It is advised that you should not store bottles that you haven’t opened in the refrigerator because it is too cold.

Wine storage at the proper temperature will always raise the value and add to the taste.

The Internet has proven to be a valuable tool when it comes to not only connecting with family and friends, but businesses as well; and the wine selling business is no exception. Wineries and retailers are using the Internet to sell their unique wines to the public. As a result, they are reaching out to a larger audience that they ever did before and for the customer, the Internet provides more choices in their wine purchases than ever before.

Knowing the conditions of the bottle, such as how it was stored, how old it is and the asking price are keys to selling your wine. Normally the best selling wines are those that are age worthy because all can be held for quite a long time. Dating back to the 1940s, these wines are high in demand and can go for as much as 5,000 dollars a bottle. If you have any bottles of age worthy wine, it is suggested that you keep those bottles then sell them for a hefty profit.

One of the best age worthy wines is known as Vintage Port which can age for nearly 100 years or more. Among the big names of Vintage port include Taylor Fladgate and Fonseca and port wine is a popular wine choice with people with some buying and selling it to rake in the profits. If stored and cared for properly, these wines will bring you a healthy profit.

Another great wine to have is Italian wine because they are normally bought and sold online and they can be stored for several years and still maintain their great taste. Top California Cabernet is another type of wine that is also popular; however, it is hard to attain. If you attain the right type of Top California wine, you can sell it for 2 – 3 times the price you paid for the bottle.

Online auctions are great places to start in order to sell your wine and there are plenty of them on the Internet. With online auctions, you can list the wine that is for sell as well as getting the current prices on the wines that you are thinking of selling as well. When you decide on an online site in which to sell you wine, be sure that you look at the prices and how things work – before you decide to use it to sell your wine.

Wine message boards are also great places to go online because most of them also contain a place to buy and sell your wine. These boards are free to join and the only thing you need to do is to become active with your postings to gain trust on them. you will also find that members on the wine boards often sell wine to each other. Private selling eliminates the need for transaction fees.

It is important to keep in mind that proper storage of wine is paramount when you are selling or buying wine. When properly stored and cared for, wine can be a very profitable hobby. Make sure that you keep in mind that quality is more important than quantity and that the money will come in time.

Collecting wine is a very interesting, fun, and at times expensive hobby; especially when it comes to searching for certain wines. Here are a few tips to help you get started on your wine collecting hobby.

One of the first things you need to do it to find a place where you will be storing your wine. If you are planning to store your wine at home, be sure that the space is located in an area with plenty of space that has a temperature between 50 and 65 degrees F. Another factor is deciding what types and brands of wine that you want to collect. There are several options available to you including red and white wines, dessert wines, and sparkling wines.

It is helpful to participate in wine tastings and trade shows as well, where you can meet other people who are also into wine collecting as well as local traders. It is also important that you do your research and learn as much you can about wine. Information about wine is widely available in magazines, the Internet, or newsletters dedicated to wine. These resources will help you learn about storage, buying wine, and even cooling your wine.

If you are beginning to collect wine, be sure that you do not purchase the wine in bulk until you know what types of wine you wish to collect. When you visit a wine trader, be sure to say that you are a wine collector so the wine trader is able to inform you whether or not these wines you are collecting are available. They can also give you the contact information for finding the wines that you are interested in from other wine regions.

Collecting wines is also a great way to start your own business as well as being a fun hobby. Area wine shows and tasting events are not only educational opportunities to learn about the different types of wine, they can also help you also find wines that will bring in higher profits.

Are you planning a trip to California’s wine country soon? If it is your first time, you will discover there are so many things to see and do when you are there and perhaps you would like a few pointers. Here are a few tips that will help you with your trip to the wine country.

When taking a trip to California wine country, be sure to examine all of your options. You can visit the wineries on your own or you can take a guided tour. If you decide on a guided tour, or if you are going on your own you may want to make plans in advance; especially if you will be visiting during peak tourism season. Making your plans through the internet is very easy because there are many wine country online travel guides available online.

California has over 400 wineries and vineyards to choose from and research on those wineries are very helpful in planning your trip. Knowing which wineries you have the option of visiting can help you decide on a plan, which can allow you to develop a map to follow on your journey. You also need to make your travel arrangements well in advance of your trip date. Vacation packages are available and include hotel accommodations, airline reservations, and a car rental. Many of these packages partner with wineries so that they are able to offer packages and other discounts.

If touring the wine country on your own, it can be fun to mix it up a bit by visiting combination of wineries that vary and size; so you can taste wines that are different in both style and taste as well as experience different things in the wineries themselves. Guided tours are limited in that they go to specific wineries that they are assigned to go through the tour company they work with; but they are convenient.

With so many wineries and California’s wine country, the longer your vacation is, the more you can enjoy what the area has to offer. Most wineries recommend a minimum of two days in order to tour and taste wines from the local wineries; even though this could be done in a single day. However, that more you stay, the more you get to taste, see and learn.

California wine country is a very popular vacation spot for many people and one of the things you do have be aware of are the crowds at a lot of the wineries and tours. If you want to avoid the large crowds, it is best that you do not tour the wineries on Saturdays because Saturday is the busiest day of the week. Many of the wineries also report that their busiest times of the year are in the months of May and October; so, the best option is to do mid week tours.

If you decide to tour the wine country on your own, be sure that you have a designated driver with you. Even though you are more likely to have a only few sips here and there on the tour, the alcohol in the wine adds up. Make sure that you plan who does the driving and maybe a share of it yourself so your partner can gets some tasting done as well.

Wine is often an essential drink to have for special occasions and other glorious moments in life. It is also affordable and makes the perfect gift for occasions such as birthdays, weddings, festivals, parties, or anniversaries. Because of the affordability and it’s wide use, wine gift baskets are very popular and trendy gifts. Not only do they contain the wine, but they also include wine glasses and corkscrews as well as various foods such as chocolates, fruit in some baskets. Other gift baskets contain cheese and crackers.

There are any suitable wine baskets to fit just about every occasion. When considering a gift basket as a present, it is a good idea to consider several factors in order to make it a special gift. For example, a gift basket that you send a friend at a part will be different from the one that you give as a wedding present. Even though wine gift baskets are inexpensive, the ones that are more expensive make a great wedding gift.

For the beginning wine enthusiast, gift baskets with a book on wine is a great idea so they will learn a little more about wine. For the experienced wine enthusiast, a stopper along with the wine is an appropriate gift idea. Wine gift baskets include wines that are fruity, tangy, white, red, full bodied wine, dry wine, sparkling wine, and even sweet wine. Red wines traditionally goes well with main courses such as red meats and white wine is ideal for seafood and white meats. A sparkling wine is ideal for special occasions such as weddings and anniversaries.

If you are not sure about what wine gift basket to send, mixed baskets that offer a mixture of wines will be a good choice. Wine gift baskets, including mixed gift baskets, are available at your local store or online starting at $20.00. Fine wine gift baskets are a little more pricey.

Are you new to the world of wine tasting? Attending wine tasting events can be great experiences that are educational and fun. Here are a few tips when it comes to tasting wines at wine tasting events.

When you are at a wine tasting event, it is appropriate that the ladies are served before the gentlemen. Bottled water and crackers are also served with some events so you can cleanse your palate between each taste. Be sure to always hold the wine glass by the stem to avoid heating the wine with your hands.

You can tell quite a bit of the wine by the color of it; however, you may notice that the glasses are clear and the tablecloths are white. Clear wine glasses and white tablecloths help you examine the wine better. It is wise that you do not judge the wine by the name alone because the names can be deceiving.

You may also notice that the tasters swirl their wine in their glass before they taste it. Swirling brings out the flavor of the wine as well as releasing them. Many wines have been aging in bottles for long periods of time. Some of them have been aging for years.

The steps to wine includes looking at it, smelling it, swirling it and tasting it. In the wine testing process, smelling plays an important part because you will learn a lot more about the wine by smelling it first.

Now that you have looked, swirled and smelled the wine, you taste it. Since your tongue has taste buds in the front and the back that aid in detecting flavors and since the wine if full of flavors, you need to taste it properly. The key to proper tasting involves several steps. When sipping the wine, always swish it around in your mouth for a few seconds to allow the flavors to emerge. Once your taste buds get acquainted with the flavors of the wine, you can think about what you are tasting.

It is also a good idea to learn as much as you can about different wines before you attend a wine tasting so you will have a better idea what you should look for in both taste and flavor. Wine tasting events are wonderful learning experiences and when you have the opportunity to go to one, you should never pass it up.

The most important factor in the taste of the wine, is of course the types of grapes used in makig the wine. Other factors may affect the flavor as well, including the soil, climate, sunlight, how the grapes are handled, how the grapes are fermented, and whether the wine is aged in wooden barrels or other materials. These factors mean that the same type of wine produced in different wine growing regions can taste very different. In fact, the same type of wine from two different vineyards within any given wine region can taste quite different. Most of the fun of tasting wines, are the vast array of flavors available.

You may see the term ‘varietal’ in referring to wines. This simply refers to the type of grape used in making a particular wine. For example, Chardonnay grapes are used to make Chardonnay wines, Merlot grapes are used in Merlot, and so on. Many wine producing countries and states have regulations regarding the amount of a particular type of grape that must be present in that type of wine. In California and Washington, the wine must have 75% of a particular grape to be referred to by that name. For example, Chardonnay must have at least 75% of Chardonnay grapes. In Oregon, wines must have at least 90% of the named grape. Other regions, such as Alsace, require 100%.
